Rocker Girl Evolves with My Jolly Family

Psycho Sisters founder develops a new product promoting the family

Seventeen years ago, Angie McLean a young independent woman ready to take on the world opened the first Psycho Sisters store in Little Five Points.  Angie’s free spirit was evident throughout the store from the hip clothing she chose to the stores colorful and vibrant design.  Over the years the Psycho Sisters clothing consignment shop concept has flourished.  Psycho Sisters now has stores in Sandy Springs, Catersville and Lilburn in addition to the original location.  During this time many other clothing consignment shops have opened in Atlanta, but none matches the Psycho Sisters attitude.

For Angie, her rough demeaner has softened over time.  She no longer is the rocker girl she once was.  Angie now has a family of her own including a 6 year old daughter and 3 year old son.   We asked Angie how this new idea came about.  She replied, “The concept of MYJOLLYFAMILY.COM was created while I was driving home from Clearwater, Florida after Thanksgiving '07 with my family.  While driving and looking at the backs of all the cars the idea just came to me.  Why not create a large assortment of full color characters of family members to be placed on the rear windshield of automobiles, letting people say who they are on the back of their car?  People could choose from hundreds of family members doing what they do! Soccer mom, business man, bowling guy, punk rock teen, ballerina daughter, crying baby, family pets as well as custom images could represent the hobbies each individual family loves to do with each character being available in four different ethnicities.”

The intention being to unite family members in a unique and expressive way.  It also lets other drivers know that there are kids in the car.  It helps discourage other cars from driving aggresively close much like the “Baby on Board” signs did in the 80’s.

We asked Angie how she got started.  “First I needed to find the perfect artist. I had the intuition that one was in my own back yard so I placed an ad in a local paper and then proceeded to google hundreds of artists portfolios across the country.  But after 3 months still could not find the style for the concept that was in my mind.  So I bought art books as well as supplies and came up with rough guidelines for what was to come. Soon after a local dread-locked, free-spirited artist strolled into my life and within 10 minutes MYJOLLYFAMILY.COM's first character and the style for the characters were created.  The whole process was a year in development going through three different artists.”

MYJOLLYFAMILY.COM offers hundreds of characters in four ethnicities.  They are fun decals that adhere to the back of car windows and are easily removable.  Characters are sold for $6.50 each or $5.50 each for orders of five or more.  Order at MYJOLLYFAMILY.COM.
